Islam demands its ummah to have praiseworthy qualities and prohibits them from being vile in order to achieve happiness and success in life in this world and in the hereafter. In Islam, the nature of 'ujub or self-admiration is among the vile and reprehensible traits. The matter was among those touched on in the Friday Sermon titled "Avoid and Stay Away From Self-Admiration".
Self-admiration is a futile attitude as it is full of hypocrisy that is hated by society. Therefore, Islam strongly encourages its ummah to be grateful when receiving blessings or advantages in order to be safe from disbelief. To stay away from and avoid ourselves from being 'ujub is to always instil and nurture humility. This nature can lead us to always respect others despite having advantages, as it will make our hearts sincere in doing good and religious deeds.
